Design of a New Building Within The Complex of Lamia General Hospital in Lamia, Greece

The Lamia General Hospital was originally housed in two- and three-storey buildings. The hospital has planned for a 33.000 sq.m. expansion in new buildings within the complex. Our study proposed two new 5-storey wings to be developed behind the existing buildings as well as an auditorium forming an inner yard in front of them.
The building program for the new wings is as follows:
– 14 nursing units (obstetrics, pediatrics, surgical, pathological, cardiological, neurological, neonates, etc.)
– Intensive care units
– Outpatient department
– Emergency department
– Diagnostic laboratories
– Operating theatres
– Central sterilization unit
– ·Restaurants
– Supporting services (central kitchen, laundry, storerooms, electrical installations, etc.)
In the old buildings the following functions remain and cover approximately 5,000 sq. m.:
– Administration –accounting –archives
– Psychiatric unit
– Personnel services, kindergarten, etc.
Finally, the new amphitheatre will cover approximately 500 sq. m.
