Central Laboratory of Public Health (CLPH) – National Research Centre (NRC)

The design team ‘TAKIS GAVRILIS AND PARTNERS’ carried out the study for the construction of the Central laboratory of Public Health – National Research Centre (Institute for Research and Quality Control of the Public Health Services) on a ground of 2,500 sq. m. within a wider area belonging to the Greek Institute for Basic Biology Research “Alexandros Fleming” in Vari, Attica.
Two orthogonal 3-storey buildings, interconnected through a polygonal single-floor reception and a gathering building form the building complex. The necessary functions such as animal laboratories and other all purpose laboratories for the CLPH, the departments of the NRC, the administrative functions, the amphitheatre, the conference room – library, the vaccine distribution room, as well as the auxiliary functions are located within the two orthogonal buildings.
The conception of the external elevations of the complex is based on the principle of a bioclimatic system of light prefabricated elements.
A network of pedestrian roads leads to the various entrances of the complex and ample space is allocated to parking facilities.
