New 3-Storey Wing at The General Hospital of Amaliada in Peloponissos

The project was concerned with the addition of a new building to the existing complex of the hospital, which previously consisted of two main 2-storey buildings with basement and a small independent administration building.
Due to the slope of the plot, the ground floor of the new building is level with the basement of the old one . The main entrance to the Ground Floor where the Emergency Department is housed, is located at the side road, thus ensuring the unobstructed access and circulation of the ambulant patients. One level below are the mortuary and the electro-mechanical installationswith separate access from the second side road.
The shape and location of the new building at a distance from the old one aimed at preserving the tree grove and in allowing for sufficient lighting to penetrate the nursing rooms of the existing building. The new and the old buildings are connected through a covered 3-storey corridor that leads to a new set of staircases and to the elevators.
Within the object of the study was also the planning of the landscape in order to allow for the effective circulation of various types of vehicles in a way that would protect the privacy of the patients and visitors.
