Heavy Sports Complex (Wrestling) in Ano Liossia, Athens

This project was concerned with the construction of an indoor athletic hall in the municipality of Ano Liossia, located in an area of about 65,000m² beyond local zoning ordinances. The actual building area is 15,031,87m² and the overall structured area is 45,629,80m². Total budget for this project was 93.323.551, 00 €.
Responsible for the design of this project was ‘Takis Gavrils & Partners Design Team’ (57,50% of the designs) who worked in collaboration with Molfesis G. Architects and Associates (42,5% of the designs).
The building is set out in four (4) levels that house the basic functions of the Hall – the court, the training/warming up areas, the administration, VIP and Press areas, the technical equipment and spectator areas.
The levels where the basic functions of the Hall are housed have been placed lower than the ground level, in order to harmonize the building volume with the mild terrain of the surrounding area and to provide easy access to the spectators.
The landscaping of the surrounding area was designed in conjunction with the improvement works on the ‘Giannoula’ stream that runs along the site. The surrounding area includes parking spaces, entry and exit points, green areas, ramps and stairways which facilitate the spectators’ flow, as well as bridges for the safe circulation of vehicles and pedestrians
