The aim of this project was to produce the design of the new multi-storey wing with a capacity of 306 beds at the “Tzaneio” District General Hospital of Piraeus, as well as the circulation study regarding the traffic flow of vehicles and pedestrians in the whole complex. The complex is located on a 9.878,33 m2 lot in Freatida, Piraeus.
The building is ten floors high and has three basements. The building programme had to cover parameters such as the future increase of hospital staff, the transfer of certain operations from the old building to the new one and therefore, the restructuring of the services in the old building. In addition, it was vital to increase the areas used for the infrastructure and support services in the functioning of the old building.
The new wing houses the Operating Department (2nd & 3rd), the Intensive Care Unit (2nd floor), the Dialysis Department (Ground Floor) and nursing wards such as Children, Surgical, Psychiatric and Pathology Wards.
Finally, parking spaces and services installation rooms were housed in the three basement levels.
